Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is a surgical procedure meant to sculpt and remove excess skin from the labia minora.

Labia minora vary greatly in size and shape, many women develop large or irregular labia minora or soon after puberty. For other women, their labia minora may change as a result of

  • Torn labia from child birth - a tear
  • Hyper-pigmented - wet with urine quite often, not in good hygienic condition)
  • Hypertrophy or excess tissue of the labia minora – which causes them embarrassment with their sexual partners or gives them irritation or discomfort in certain clothing or during certain activities.

The surgical approach for Labiaplasty is tailored to each individual patient’s needs and concerns.

The best technique for a given patient will depend on how prominent her labia minora tissues is, the degree of asymmetry or pigmentary changes along her mucosal to skin border and the desire of the patient.

A surgeon must be mindful of pigmentary changes so as not to distort the pink – white or pink – brown transition junction between mucosa and skin.

One must also take care to avoid vertically shortening the clitoral hood as this can become too much exposure of the clitoris, making sexual intercourse uncomfortable.

Procedure

The entire procedure takes about an hour because it is done very precisely under magnification to ensure that edges are perfect and follow the natural edges.

The procedure is performed under general anaesthetic (GA) at a fully accredited surgery centre.

Techniques in labia minora reduction performed by Dr Elzeiny are as follows:

  1. Trimory (Barbie Doll trimming)
  2. V resection technique
  3. Wedge resection of labia minora reduction
  4. Deepithelialization of labia minora

Post Operatively

Patients are permitted to shower the following day after surgery, however some are advised not to soak in a bathtub or pool for at least 2 – 4 weeks post operatively. Patients are asked to also refrain from sexual activity and the use of Tampons for 6 weeks.

Dr Elzeiny has not received any complaints of about losing sensation or the ability to orgasm after such procedure.
